The qualification covers all the skills and knowledge required to successfully run a wet leisure facility, including heating, ventilation, energy efficiency of a swimming pool, disinfection, pool water chemistry and more.
COURSE CONTENT
The course provides the theory behind pool plant operations and maintenance, as well as providing learners with information on best practice principles and information on health, safety and legal responsibilities. The course is predominantly classroom based, with some practical pool plant tasks to ensure learners have the skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for the role.

- Principles of Pool Water Testing
- Principles of Disinfection, Pool Chemistry and Dosing in Pool Plant Operations
- Principles of Mechanical Pool Plant Operations
- Swimming Pool Heating, Ventilation and Energy Efficiency
- Management Practices and Health and Safety in Plant Operations
COURSE LENGTH
21 hours over 3 days face-to-face, and 6 hours of self-study.
CERTIFICATION
Successful completion of this Pool Plant Operations qualification leads to an accredited certificate from Safety Training Awards (The Swimming Teachers' Association).
This course carries a 5-year validity period and can be revalidated before certification expiry.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
- Be 16 years of age
- Advisable that learners have a minimum of level 2 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent
